THE HOUSES OF SECCHETO

Seccheto is a pretty seaside resort in the municipality of Campo nell'Elba, located on the western coast of Elba, known as the Costa del Sole. The village rises enclosed by a hill near the hamlet of Vallebuia; many interesting trails for trekkers and mountain bikers start from here. On the high ground above the village there is the important me- galitic site of Piane alla Sughera, with mound burials and small burial menhirs. The rich granite deposits in the area were exploited from the Roman imperial age onward to the period of Pisan rule (10th century), evidenced by the mighty Column of Vallebuia and a nearby cuniera for detaching granite material.
